You Can Now Compare Phone Specs With a Quick Google Search

In the market for a new phone? Google just made it super easy to compare device specs. Now, typing something like ‘Google Pixel 2 XL vs iPhone X’ into search will bring up a table comparing specs and customer reviews for various devices. Android Police spotted the change over the weekend.

Right now, the feature seems to work best with smart phones.
While I get results for other smartphone comparisons like “OnePlus 5 vs Galaxy S8,” I don’t see anything if I type “Surface Pro vs MacBook Pro” and get a comparison, for instance.

Results are initially presented as a small chart at the top of the search results page with info like the phone’s release date, storage capacity, and available colors. You can tap on the down arrow at the bottom of the window to expand the chart and see more information. Just like any other search, below the chart will be Top Stories related to your query followed by other search results.

Should you buy a phone based on its spec list alone? Absolutely not. You should definitely read through some of the other search results as well. That said, the list could make comparing some basic things like storage and screen size a little easier.

It’s a small touch, but a genuine time saver when you want to quickly look up device specs (something I do several times a day). Here’s hoping it expands to other devices soon.
